The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), is the UN's global development network advocating for progressive change and connecting people to knowledge, experience and resources that help them build a better life and achieve the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). The overall goal of the UNDP Multi Country Office covering the Cook Islands, Niue, Samoa and Tokelau; is to work with partners to ensure better outcomes for the people and environment in the Pacific through more accurate data for planning and monitoring, improved policies and legislation, greater access to quality services. The benchmark against which progress is measured are the MDGs and the advancement of human rights.

UNDP currently works in four thematic areas:

  • Democratic Governance
  • Poverty Reduction
  • Crisis Prevention, Recovery and Disaster Management
  • Environment and Energy

The vision of the Country Office is to become the governments' leading partner in the achievement of Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).
